HDD & Bandwidth Calculator

Estimate the storage capacity and network bandwidth required for your CCTV system based on camera and recording parameters.

Calculator

Enter your camera and recording details to estimate storage and bandwidth.

Streaming 01

Off

Select Disk to estimate required disk count from recording days, or Days to estimate retention from disk count. Bitrate values are planning estimates. Edit them to match the actual camera or recorder settings. Motion percentage represents the portion of time recorded.

Estimated Results

Based on your recording configuration.

Required Disks
1 Disk
Bandwidth
2.05 Mbps
Required Storage
1.00 TB

Estimates use decimal TB (1 TB = 1,000,000,000,000 bytes) and exclude disk formatting, redundancy, metadata and filesystem overhead.

Important points to consider when planning bandwidth & storage

  • “Hours of Motion” will alter storage requirements in this calculator.
  • Motion-based recording can reduce storage consumption; network bandwidth depends on actual streaming behaviour.
  • Gigabit Ethernet provides a maximum usable bandwidth of approximately 500 Mbit/s in the reference guidance.
  • 100 Mbit Fast Ethernet provides a maximum usable bandwidth of approximately 55–60 Mbit/s in the reference guidance.
  • 10 Mbit Ethernet provides a maximum usable bandwidth of approximately 6–7 Mbit/s in the reference guidance.
  • Wi-Fi 802.11g (54 Mbit/s nominal) provides a usable bandwidth of approximately 12–25 Mbit/s in the reference guidance.
